After last week's post I started to think about other cartoons that I could talk about. One of theme even featured power armor. It was one of my favorites as a child and still holds a place in my heart. So let's take a look at "Centurions: Power X Treme".
For some reason I remember the show being called "The Centurions" as such that is what I'll call it from here on. "The Centurions" began as a 5 episode miniseries. It ended up lasting 60 episodes. The miniseries aired in 1985 and the show ran from 1986 to 1987.
It followed the adventures of a team of three of men, later growing to five. They are aided by the incredibly intelligent Crystal Kane. She was stationed in "Sky Vault", a pace station, and worked the teleporter. She was often joined by Shadow the dog and/or Lucy the orangutan.
The team is made up of Max Ray, the brilliant Sea Operations Commander.
Jake Rockwell, the rugged Land Operations Specialist.
Ace McCloud, the daring Air Operations Expert.
Later two more members joined the team. Rex Charger, the expert Energy Programmer.
Followed by John Thunder, the specialist Infiltration Commander.
This team would fight against the evil Cyborg Doc Terror. Doc Terror was your run of he mill world conquering mad scientist. He was a purely evil character, with no redeeming characteristics.
This was par for the course in the 80's.The show was not very deep. There were a few moments of genuine depth though.
The show never sought to be more than a simple action adventure, with a an eco-friendly message. It succeeded in that light. I still fondly remember the show. I saw it in the 90's when it was in syndication. Which mean I never got any of the toys. It is one that hope to see get a reboot of some kind. I would love to hear "The Centurions" say "Power Extreme" once again, or at least see a new line of toys.
