Web Wednesday.

On this edition of Web Wednesday I am going to look at something a little different. Normally I spotlight a person or group of people who produce video content. Usually in the form of review shows or comedic series. If you consider those people to be akin to TV shows then what I am spotlighting today is like a Television Network. Today I am going to talk about TV-Nihon.

Kamen Rider Hibiki.
Before I get into just what TV-Nihon is I want to give you a little bit of info on my own viewing habits. Over a year ago, in an all too frequent occurrence, my cable was cut. During this period I spent most of my time watching shows and movies I had downloaded on my computer. Most of these shows were foreign in origin. Usually coming from the UK and Japan. After the cable was put back on I decided to see how long I could go with out turning on the TV. The first day was easier than I thought it would be and soon enough I had gone months without even glancing at my TV. Eventually I got rid of it all together. I was able to do this thanks in no small part to TV Nihon and their amazing catalogue of Fansubed shows from Japan.

As you may have guessed TV-Nihon is a website that hosts a collection of Japanese TV shows. Most of these shows are Tokusatsu or SFX heavy Sci-Fi/Superhero fair. Such as Kamen Rider, Cutey Honey, Garo, and Super Sentai. Some of these series have been on the air for decades, such as Kamen Rider and Super Sentai or as you may know it Power Rangers.

Kick-ass coats and swords. What more could you want?
I could go into these series and their storied past but suffice it to say that TV-Nihon has hundreds of episodes available for download. These series are not for everybody. Most of them, while not being kiddy, are not overly serious. They are colorful, brash, and all together very not subtle. Having said that, they are also immensely entertaining.

I'll give you two guesses as to why I love this show. Here's a hint it's not the hat.
I would never have gotten to see them had it not been for TV-Nihon and the wonderful work that they do. The people there put so much work and heart into what they do that it elevates the shows themselves. The use of character specific fonts and colors helps to give the subtitles a new level of emotion. These are just some of the little touches that make TV-Nihon one of the best places on the Internet for entertainment. Take a few minutes to go the their website and check out a few of their shows. If you are a novice to the Tokusatsu genre than try the first series of Garo or Cutey Honey. You won't regret it.
