Web Wednesday.
My quest to diversify Web Wednesday has hit a detour. Instead of spotlighting a Web Personality who isn’t a white guy, I am going to talk about Telly Award winner Ed Glaser, who is a white guy. I can’t help it. Ed has a new series on the horizon. The series called “Ninja the Mission Force” co-stars Brad Jones and looks to be all kinds of fun. What can I say Ed Glaser and Brad Jones in ninja outfits takes precedence over diversity.
Ed Glaser is a filmmaker and the president of Dark Maze Studios. He is known for his love of niche films. His love is so great that he has brought one of these movies to DVD. The movie “Rampage” is more commonly known as the Turkish Rambo. Ed saw clips of the movie and fell in love with it. When he learned that no English version of the film was available he tracked down the rights and produced one. The movie is available for purchase at Ed’s website.
Ed so loves the “foreign remake of American movie” genre that he has a whole show devoted to it. Deja View which is carried by ThatGuyWithTheGlasses.com spotlights different examples of these movies. It is a fun series that makes you want to track down the movies and give them a fair shot.
Deja View is not Ed’s only series. He is probably best known for Press Start. Press Start was originally an animated video game parody series. When the first season of the show ended a movie called “Press Start- The Movie” was released. It was a live action feature length movie that takes place in between the first and second seasons of the show. While I haven’t seen the show I have seen the movie. I really enjoyed it. It was pure fun. If you have any experience with retro video games than you should give it a shot. After the Movie was shot the show was renamed “Press Start Adventures”. The show has become very popular and even featured voice actors from big name video games as guest stars. I should also mention that Press Start has gotten a sequel. I have yet to watch the new movie called “Press Star 2 Continue” but I am sure it is just as good as the original.
Press Star Adventures is not Ed’s only foray into the world of animation. Another animated series, named Space Ninja, has been released as well. Ed Glaser helped the show come to fruition. The series, which was created and is animated by Alex Mitchell, is a more serious show. It revolves around a ninja in a future version of Japan. The series is based on a comic. Ed worked with Alex Mitchell to see the series come to life.
Ed has also created a live action Sci-Fi series called RoboGirl. The series is a homage to 1980s Science Fiction movies. The show features a female lead named Huntress who is humanity’s only hope against an invasion of aliens. Like the other series it is also featured on ThatGuyWithTheGlasses.com.
Which brings us to Ninja the Mission Force. One of the niche movie genres that Ed loves is the Ninja movie. Or to be more exact the Ninja movies produced by men like Godfrey Ho. In these movies an older film, usually Japanese or Chinese, would be spliced with new footage. The new footage would almost always feature white actors dressed in brightly colored Ninja costumes. These movies were not very good but they were ridiculous and entertaining. Ninja the Mission Force is an even more over the top send up of the genre. The series will feature a cast of big named stars, pulled from old movies, and new footage. The series will debut on February 16 and I can’t wait.
