So I have been neglecting this blog recently. Except for Fat Fridays. This got me thinking. I should do a similar style post everyday. Now I am no fool. I really doubt I will be able to do that, but it's worth a try. And so we come to out first media Monday. I will try to post a review/spotlight on a form of media every Monday. Mostly movies. Let's how long I can keep that up.
If you hadn't guessed today we will be looking at the 1998 movie "Drive".
I first saw "Drive" years ago. It was probably on HBO or USA. To be honest I can't quite remember. I do remember enjoying the hell out of it. "Drive" is what I want in an action movie. It is fun. As much as I enjoy drama and tragedy sometimes you just want to have some fun.
"Drive" Is pure fun. It is, I feel, Mark Dacascos' best movie. He is awesome in it. As good as any Hong Kong action star. You definitely get a Jackie Chan, Jet Lee feel. The man can move and fight.
Mark Dacascos for those not in the know is a B movie action star. He is the guy people get when Jet Lee and Donny Yen is busy. Actually when he first started he was the guy you got when Brandon Lee was dead.
No really Mark Dacascos starred in "The Crow: Stairway to Heaven." I very underrated show. He is the vaguely ethnic guy that can play any minority. He has played Hispanic, Asian, Samoan/Hawaiian, Native American, Japanese, and so on. Do a search for him on IMDB and Amazon. You won't regret it. Unless you watch "Crying Freeman" that movie sucks.
Any way moving on. The movie also stars Kadeem Hardison. You know Dwayne Wayne on "A Different World". Yeah I don't have much to say about him. I like him in almost everything I see him in. He is funny and has great charisma. He was also in "The Crow: Stairway to Heaven". Go figure.
To top it off Brittany Murphy has a small but memorable role. She is only in the middle of the movie but she steals every scene. Brittany Murphy sadly passed away on December 22, 2009. She dies way to soon. I am not ashamed to say I had a huge crush on her. This move is largely responsible for that. Well, this and "Clueless".
I should also mention the films director. Steve Wang does not have a huge resume. In fact it is rather short. What it lacks in length it makes up with depth. The man has a history with Tokusatsu. As geeky as this may sound I absolutely love Tokusatsu.
Anyway. You can find all of "Drive" on YouTube. Check out the first few parts. Then rent, stream, or buy it. If you like a fun movie, you won't regret it.
