Justin Carmical, the man who would one day be known as JewWario, was born on April 11, 1971. He received his first NES on the day of his High School Graduation. Three months later he got his first import game. He was hooked from that moment onward. His interest in Japanese culture started a year earlier. Justin bought an issue of Weekly Shonen Jump from a friend. He continued to buy the magazines, something he still does to this day, and fell deeper into the world of Japanese pop culture. His love for all things Japan followed him to college. He majored in Japanese and while he was unable to finish college, he can read and speak Japanese.
Like most people Justin started his Internet career by doing a blog. The blog was featured on the ThatGuyWithTheGlasses.com podcast Transmission Awesome. With that endorsement JewWario became a featured member of the site. He started with his main series You Can Play This. The series revolves around Japanese games that have not been localized to the US but can still be played by English speakers. The series is unique due to JewWario's positive reviews. As with most of the shows on TGWTG.com Justin plays more than one character.
The most used and most popular character is Yanki J. Yanki J is delinquent style character. His name is derived from a term used to describe a type of Japanese delinquent. While the character started out with more of an edge he has become much more comedic.
Justin is also featured in many PodCasts. These run the gamut of his many interests. He is one of the hosts for the book based review show Spine Breakers. He also co-hosts the Weekly Manga Recap with Rollo T and is the star/creator of the Gaming Pipeline.
With the creation of Blistered Thumbs a video game centric website from the creators of TGWTG.com Justin found himself with a new position. He is now the Lead Wii editor for the site. He also has a new show called J-Dub Reviews that is featured on the site.
With all of that on his place Justin decided to do even more. He has released a number of specials, crossovers, and cameos. His most popular side project is probably his Mario Monologues series. In it he plays the famous Italian plumber as Mario recounts his adventures. It is pure bliss and I can't recommend it enough.
I mentioned crossovers in the previous paragraph. I wanted to expand on that a little. One of the best and most informative crossovers was done with a man who goes by the name of Psychotaku. During this crossover the two men give descriptions of ever early Super Sentai series. If you are unaware of what that is, let me explain. The Super Sentai shows are a long running Japanese team based superhero show that falls into the tokusatsu genre. That is to say SFX heavy shows that feature superheroes. That may sound familiar to you. I have spoken about them before. They are were we get Power Rangers from. It is interesting to hear about even if you aren't a fan.
All of that aside the main reason I wanted to talk about Justin Carmical is because he comes off as being really likable. I watch a lot of people on line. Of them there are only two who I would actually want to sit down with and just shoot the shit. Those two being Brad Jones and Justin Carmical. In the case of Brad Jones it's because he seems to be very relaxed and has a great sense of humor. With Justin it's just that he seems to be a really nice guy. There is no pretense, no attitude, just a positive individual. That is rare. Of course these two may actually be giant assholes but a doubt it. That isn't something you can hide. Give Justin's stuff a try. You may not be interested in what he talks about but you will like how he talks about it. Trust me that makes sense.
P.S. The second part of the Super Sentai video is below.
