Web Wednesday.

For the third entry in my UK Internet Entertainer series. we have a man who reviews technology and tat. In case you were wondering he isn't completely responsible for me naming my Tuesday posts "Tat Tuesday" but I would be lying if I said he wasn't partly to blame. It may seem odd for a person to review technology and other bits of unnecessary crap, but it makes perfect sense. When you review a movie you are limited to visuals, audio, and the story. With a physical item you have a few more senses that can be assaulted. You also have something that you can assault right back. If you take all of that into account you may start to grasp the amount of entertainment that Ashens can deliver.

Stuart Ashen is a British comedian that was born in Norwich, England, in 1976. He still resides in Norwich with his girlfriend.  He is currently the fourth most subscribed comedian on YouTube UK.

While Ashens is a member of TGWTG.com, I know him from his personal YouTube channel. Mainly because he isn't one of the 'big' names on that site. Much like Vang1us he has stayed loyal to YouTube while somewhat outgrowing the site at the same time.

Art by Andrew Dickman.
Ashens has said, jokingly, that his involvement with ThatGuyWithTheGlasses.com is due to Guru Larry and Mike Michaud threatening him with their "devastating tag-team wrestling moves".

I stated earlier that Ashens has made his name by reviewing technological gadgets. To be precise his fame came from his early reviews of the "Pop Station", which is a group of knockoff handheld games. Over the years he has gone on to many other knock off gadgets and even official items.

As time went on Ashens started to review random items he found at "Poundland" an English version of the American Dollar Stores. These reviews can include anything from cheap toys, horrible food, and Holiday oddities. I love these videos. They are pure gold.

As with most Internet reviews and Comedians, come to think of it, Ashens has created a number of side characters to use in his reviews. The most well known probably being Chef Excellence. While Chef Excellence was originally a normal everyday person he has become a drunken, homeless, malcontent Puppet. Other characters include 'The Godmonster of Indian Flats' a B-Movie monster few have heard of, Quincy a caterpillar that sings obscure Beatles songs, The Nosey Bonk a horrifying children's character from the 1980's, and The Silver Skull who is often portrayed as Ashens' enemy.

Aside from his gadget reviews Ashens can also be seen on "Terrible Old Game You've Probably Never Heard Of". Which is a terrible name for an entertaining show. From the title you can probably figure out what the show is about. So far there have only been 6 episodes of the show stretched out over four years.

Recently Ashens has produced a more serious show called The Proxy.  The show features a fictionalized real world version of Ashens. The show falls into the Action/Thriller/Sci-Fi genres. It spanned 10 episodes each ranging from 3-5 minutes. I have yet to watch the show but from what I've seen it looks to be very well done.

Ashens has also found success outside of the internet. He has appeared on the BBC with "Ashen's Tech Dump". He also released a DVD compilation of his videos in 2008. I wouldn't be surprised if a followup wasn't on the way.

In the years that Ashens has been active he has produced close to 200 videos. Most of these videos go well past the 10 minute mark. Aside from "The Proxy" videos I have seen all of them. I can honestly say that Ashens is the most consistently entertaining man on the Internet. When you consider that he tackles topics like Microscopes, Easter decorations, and knock off Wrestling figures, that is saying something. If you need further evidence as to the mans 'chops', his main YouTube channel has 45,585,779 views. What else can I say?
