Awesome Fat Guy of the Week.

I recently stumbled upon a pair of British TV personalities called the Hairy Bikers. These two men have presented a number of food/travel shows. Over the last few weeks I have sought out their past works and have thoroughly enjoyed them. So I decided the best thing I could do, would be to grant the honor of being Awesome Fat guys to them. So, with out further ado, the Hairy Bikers are the Awesome Fat Guys of the Week.

From left to right Si King and Dave Myers.
The Hairy Bikers are Si King and Dave Myers. Two men who have worked behind the scenes in the entertainment industry for decades. Dave specialized in make-up and prosthetics, while Si worked as a locations manager. The two met on a TV set and formed a quick friendship built on a love of biking, cooking, and baking.

As their friendship grew the two found themselves cooking for each other and going on bike trips. Something that would eventually grow into a career. The first step was a cookbook. From there things just continued to grow.

The popularity of that first book allowed the two to make the step into TV. They shot a pilot that saw the two travel across Portugal. The pilot was picked up and the first series of The Hairy Bikers' Cookbook was produced.  During six episodes the boys travel throughout Namibia, the Isle of Man, Ireland, and Transylvania. The unique combination of cooking, travel, comradery, comedy, and motorcycles was an instant winner. The show would go on for a further 4 series during which Dave and Si traveled from one exotic location to another. To date the two have gone to Vietnam, Turkey, Mexico, India, Argentina, Belgium, and Morocco to name just a few.

Eventually the two decided to focus their interest closer to home. This culminated in the 30 part series The Hairy Bikers' Food Tour of Britain. In this show the boys traveled through the UK to taste local flavors and compete in cook offs with great local chefs. While this show lacked exotic locales and the comedic gold of a language barrier it brought the cooking to the forefront. As such this series has some of the best cooking in the Hairy Bikers' catalog.

Si and Dave followed up the 30 part opus with a shorter 6 episode series titled Mums Know Best, named after their cook book of the same title. The series celebrated the history of family recipes. After which the two went on to The Hairy Bikers' Cook Off which brought back the challenges of The Hairy Bikers' Food Tour but added celebrity guests.

In 2011 the boys did a second series of Mums Know Best this time focusing on the very best of British home cooking.  That was followed by a 4 episode series called Meals on Wheels which showed the Hairy Bikers lead a campaign to save Meals on Wheels. As if that wasn't enough the two also starred in the Best of British which ran for 30 episodes. Each episode of the show showed the best Britain had to offer in a specific food topic.

Most recently the boys have been on a Bakeation. The Hairy Bikers' Bakeation to be exact. In this show Si and Dave travel around the EU looking for the best baked goods all the while making their own breads, pies, and other baked foods. The show is still airing and the boys are already planning on what comes next. The Hairy Bikers' Mississippi Adventure is slated to debut this year and will see the boys explore southern cuisine. I can't wait to see what they get up to.

Before I forget the Hairy Bikers' have also starred in a number one episode specials. These specials include two Christmas episodes and the first Hairy Bikers episode in Britain. These specials retain the usual Hairy Biker feel but add a new flavor. One of the Christmas specials saw Si and Dave throw a Christmas party for emergency workers who usually work on Christmas. It was nice to see the people we depend on get to enjoy Christmas, even if it wasn't December, 25th.

You may think that all of the TV work has completely occupied the boys time. You would be wrong. They have also found the time to write a further 5 cook books bringing their total to 6. They are the third most popular cookery writers in the UK. I have no doubt that part of that success comes from their approachability. They are currently touring across the UK while working on their other new show The Hairy Bikers' Larger than Live.

I'm tired just from talking about what these two do. They have so much energy and the love they feel for what they do is palpable. I doubt I'll ever get around to cooking any of their dishes but I'll watch every thing the do anyway. The Hairy Bikers are just so endearing and like-able that you can't help but fall in love with them. Si King and Dave Myers are just so fun and friendly you want to spend time with them. I want to see them travel and have fun. They love what they're doing and and I love watching them do it. The Hairy Bikers' have made a career out of doing what they love. That is always Awesome and that's why the Hairy Bikers are the Awesome Fat Guys of the Week. Keep on riding boys you have one fan for life in me.
