Tat Tuesday.

A few months ago I did a post on the old Battle Beasts toy line. At the close of the post I mentioned that Diamond Select had plans to release a new line of Battle Beasts. In fact they had a countdown clock ticking off the days until the return of the line. That clock ran down a few days ago. As such let's take a look at just what is on the horizon for the Battle Beasts. Let's call this Battle Beasts 2: Electric Boogaloo.

The above picture is of the first new Minimate based Battle Beasts. The character is named Vorin and will he the main focus of the forth coming Battle Beasts comic written by Bobby Curnow. The comic will be published by IDW and the first issue is slated to be released in July. As of this moment the Battle Beasts website is live and the first few pages of the first issue are available to read for free. You can find the website here.

Here is where things get very interesting. It has recently come to light that Diamond Select only bought the rights to the Battle Beasts name. This means that other companies are free to use the style and game play gimmick of the original toy line. One company has stepped forward and done just that. Takara Tomy, who you may remember created the toy line way back when, have recently announced a new toy line called Beasts Saga. This new line is very similar to the old line in it's style and the added game-play gimmick.

Just look at them all. Especially the Giraffe. Look at the Giraffe.

While Diamond Select has only shown one new figure Takara Tomy has released images for a slew of new figures. These new figures feature a more complex game-play aspect than the original Battle Beasts.

The figures will be used with dice, cards, and a play mat. So far the actual mechanics of the game are a bit of a mystery but it is only a matter of time before more information is available. If you are interested in this version of the Battle Beasts than you are in luck. These toys are available for pre-order right this very minute at Big Bad Toystore.

If you are interested in the Diamond Select Battle Beasts you are going to have wait a few more months. Although looking at some of these prototype pictures makes me think it will be worth the wait. Both of these lines have their appeal. The Diamond Select Battle Beasts have intricate sculpts and a strong story behind them. The Beasts Saga is more in line with the original Battle Beasts line and are much closer to being released. Not to mention the added game play aspect.
